This is the Klang Maternal and Child Welfare Centre. How much history can a single old photograph reveal? Beyond just the passage of time, it speaks volumes about the social welfare of the era. Pictured here is an antique bus stationed at Klang’s Little India (formerly the other end of Rembau Street). The location is roughly behind where the current Mydin in Klang South stands—specifically, the second row of the alleyway between the Klang Library. Following a fire at the original site, the building has since been reconstructed into three-story shoplots. That Klang already possessed such an advanced welfare center for women and children a hundred years ago proves how far ahead of its time the town was. It reflects a social mechanism that was remarkably well-established compared to many other regions. |
